Staffing the All-Volunteer Visitor Center

  • Greet visitors to our area, answer their questions about the Jim Ned Valley, give them a map, tell them where our restaurants, retail stores, and entertainment venues are. If you’re not sure, this is a great way to get training and learn for yourself.
  • Requirements: A big smile, a welcoming personality, and a little time. Volunteers need Fridays, Saturdays, and during special events.

Special Events

  • The Chamber hosts many events during the year, from our quarterly community meetings with interesting speakers, to our seasonal festivals such as the 4th of July parade or Old Settlers Christmas. There are two ways to volunteer here: either as a committee member helping plan and execute the event, or as a volunteer during the event.
  • Requirements: For a planning committee, the ability to attend meetings, communicate ideas, follow-through to meet deadlines, a willingness to call on others for contributions or donations, good organizational skills, and a team player. For the event: being responsible for one particular area, whether it’s putting out directional signs, supervising an activity, or pouring the coffee. We’re sure to have a role that appeals to you!

Changing out the Reader Board

  • The Chamber maintains the message board in front of our Town Hall. The message changes each week, providing helpful tips to residents and visitors alike. We are always open to suggestions for new messages, and need volunteers to change out the letters each week.
  • Requirements: A bit of flexibility to get on the two-foot-high platform and to stretch up to change letters. Also – a good knowledge of the alphabet to keep our letter box in order!

Welcome Committee

  • The Chamber delivers a box full of information to each new resident in the Buffalo Gap Elementary School area. Volunteers doing this get to meet new neighbors, make new friends, and help recruit new volunteers!
  • Requirements: Ability to help identify new residents, and then pick up the box from the Chamber and schedule time to deliver to the new resident. A friendly, welcoming spirit is needed.

Membership Recruitment

  • We need volunteers to help identify prospective new Chamber members, to continue to grow our support base and raise the funds to continue supporting our community. Members can be individuals or businesses who love Buffalo Gap or want to do business with its residents. Ideal targets include your employers and neighbors.
  • Requirements: Love Buffalo Gap!

Fundraising / Development

  • As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, the Chamber is reliant on donations and grants to fund its operations and activities. Volunteers are needed to help identify grant opportunities, suggest fundraising activities, solicit area businesses and foundations for donations, and generally support philanthropic activity. Opportunities include a one-time suggestion or serving on a committee.
  • Requirements: Creativity, ability to share ideas and make suggestions, willingness to make phone calls or visits. Helpful if you have grant-writing experience or connections to corporate development teams, but not necessary.

Board of Directors

  • The Chamber is governed by a group of dedicated volunteers who meet once a month as a board, and more frequently to chair committees and activities. Each member serves a three-year term and may be elected for a second term. The new years start January 1, but occasionally there are mid-year replacements, so let us know of your interest at any time for the next available consideration.
  • Requirements: Each Board member must be a Chamber member in good standing, have previous service on a Chamber committee or activity, and live or work in the Jim Ned Valley.
